Facials - Eye Lash Care

Do you know that the lifetime of a single eyelash ranges between 150 to 200 days? The number of eyelashes on each lid also vary. The top eyelid usually has 150 to 200 individual hairs, while the bottom eyelid may have somewhere between 75 and 100 hairs. Since ancient history, eyelashes have been a sign of femininity and natural beauty. In Egyptian times, women would rub kohl on their eyelashes, but not solely for beauty. Eye makeup was applied daily as an important way of protecting the eye and lashes from the sun, dirt, dust, and even insects. In today’s world with usage of many unnatural products it is too easy to damage eye lashes. They may become thin and brittle or even fall out. If you damage or lose any lashes they can take up to 7-8 weeks to grow back. Even though we dedicate hours of time to our hair and makeup, our lashes often tend to get overlooked. Even if you don’t wear makeup, it’s key to your lashes’ health to groom, moisturize, and protect them. There are a few simple things you can do to protect and nourish these frames to the windows of your soul.

  • Never ever sleep with your makeup on. Not only does this create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, but the old saying “sleeping with your makeup on will age you seven years.” is true! Your delicate facial skin repairs itself at night and not only does makeup block that process, but you are neglecting to provide your skin with the cleaning and moisturizing it needs. Makeup can clog pores, and day old mascara alone is responsible for the majority of lash damage and breakage.
  • As part of your nightly skincare routine, remember how delicate lashes are. They are vulnerable to harsh chemicals, so choose a natural cleanser for your skin. The skincare line that we carry here at Spa Lux is both natural and nourishing. Remember not to scrub your eye area, but rather cleanse with gentle sweeping movements.
  • Moisturizing is the foundation for healthy skin and hair. For your lashes, you may be surprised at how easy it can be to provide them with essential ingredients. There are a few products on the market that can provide you with a moisturizer or serum for lashes, but I have found what works the best is the oldest natural type of moisture – oil. Oil has been used for many years as a necessary indulgence for the body. Sesame oil, almond oil, coconut oil, and especially olive oil are incredibly hydrating for your entire body. Oil, which can also be used as an effective makeup remover or skin softener, should be applied as you would mascara. Used nightly, not only will your lashes remain soft and smooth, but the oil will penetrate the hair follicle and increase the hair’s growth cycle.

As always, the best products to take care of your body are those with natural ingredients and are chemical-free. At Spa Lux, we pride ourselves on only using products that are nutrient-rich and completely organic. Please come to us snd consult with our professional estheticians concerning your eyelashes or any other skin condition that needs improvement.
