4 Tips to Remember Before Your First Massage Appointment

Have you finally taking the jump and scheduled your first massage appointment at SPA LUX? First of all, congratulations! We know you will love everything our Tulsa day spa has to offer. Next, we would like to provide a bit of advice as to what you should do to prepare for the experience. Here are four key tips to consider.

#1: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Let’s say it again: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! We cannot stress how important this is to having a successful spa experience. Drink plenty of water the day before, the day of, and the day after your massage appointment. Remember, coffee and tea don’t count! Why is this so important? The manipulation of muscles by a therapist can be quite dehydrating to your body. Kneading and working out knots allows the fluid inside to be released into your circulatory system, which then is eliminated when you use the restroom. The process also releases trapped metabolic waste and toxins from your muscular tissue, which then needs to be flushed from the body. Thus, it is extremely important to drink as much water as you possibly can. (As a side note, we also offer complimentary lemon water to ensure you keep the fluids going while you are at our day spa location.)

#2: Arrive a Little Bit Early

We always recommend that new clients to our Tulsa day spa arrive at least fifteen minutes before their scheduled appointment. This allows ample time for filling out paperwork about your massage goals, preferences, and any health conditions you may have. Another benefit of showing up before your massage appointment time? You can enjoy our lavish marble Turkish steam room and cedar saunas in comfort while you wait. This is an excellent way to relax, unwind, and get ready for the pampering to come.

#3: Make Requests During the Massage

One piece of feedback we sometimes hear from clients who haven’t had a massage before is that they wish the process had been tailored a little more to their needs. At SPA LUX, we want you to have an enjoyable and relaxing experience. Thus, our therapists are very open to hearing your requests throughout your massage. For example, if you’re experiencing discomfort while a therapist works on a certain area of your body, be sure to let them know. In addition, requests such as a lighter touch or attention to a certain muscle group are also appropriate. You can also ask for things like a lower steam temperature when in the Vichy shower, an extra blanket, or even that the music be turned down a bit. Your therapist is dedicated to helping you have a relaxing, enjoyable visit and will be happy to accommodate all reasonable requests.

#4: Schedule Your Appointment Before Special Events

We also like to warn our clients that it is important to schedule your appointment a few days out from any special events or activities. The reasons for this is that some people who have never had a massage or don’t regularly get one can feel sore or experience flu-like symptoms for a day or two after their session. This is a completely normal effect of the detoxification process, which can usually be alleviated by drinking lots of extra water. Instead of taking a chance that you could be one of the ones experiencing this during your wedding, prom, vacation, or other occasion, it is better to just schedule your appointment a few days or a week beforehand. At SPA LUX, we are dedicated to helping our clients achieve relaxation and enjoy the many health benefits of massage therapy.
